A Tribute To The Intrepid Kris

A TRIBUTE TO THE INTREPID KRIS
by Warina Sushil A. Jukuy

The Crescent glows resplendent
Alas! the Kalis tis now broken!
Is this the same ancient Kris?
Seems alien now, how strange
(To my bleary memory forgotten)

What is the nature of this Rapier?
Forged from the First Falcate
Created in its pristine state
Rust too meek to even graze
Dared to touch solely by palms chaste

Who has dared break such sacred relic?
Staunch defenders been overcome by Slumber
No sentinel ever borne with recklessness
Neither piercing vision ceased to ruminate
Nor their hearts ever wavered but a moment

The sterling blade sheathed into cheats
Encrusted scabbards by bastards deluded
Duped by mules, betrayed by traitors
Conned by spurious coins, by swindlers dwindled
Shrunk and shriveled yet never thwarted
That forsaken Scales long ago toppled
now rendered extinct worthless to even tip

Trounced we flounce kris a-swishing
Trudging we soared against rough current
Pouncing we feinted with unleashed abandon
The vulnerable sullied not by our sacred Foil
Nobility intact we paid homage to The Originator

Witness Our blood ooze against splayed limbs
Strewn torsos hacked, cranium chopped,
Nauseous stench, such horrendous sight
Helmets hovered like vultures over carcass
Nestled against Earth's cavernous mound
Witnessed by the Martyred, the rascals blind
Gawked at the mottled hallowed ground

The engulfing schism borne confusing dissension
Over Four decreed we shall as one converge
Transgress not the Limits set by The Criterion
Throughout centuries remain unfettered
Unshackled relinquish libertine's Doubt
To oblivion

Desist to depreciate The Immutable
Scale not the heights where Wisdom
With Knowledge merge to coagulate
Defy not the Zenith to plunge into Nadir
Seek Perfection in the bedrock of humility
Cleanse your filth by His Infinite Mercy

Greed has corroded the verdant Creed
The Kris took the plunge it smashed
Into smithereens of blasted dust
It dissipated into leering barrels
Fashioned of Steel like mangosteens
Savor the toxic pulp as it lethally bursts

The Crescent glows as it smolders
Nay! the Kalis shall never be broken!
It is the same ancient Kris
Seems alien now, how strangely spirited
Animatedly stoking my blurry memory

Against a mirage of haunting solstice
Relentlessly
Witness Our blood ooze against splayed limbs
Strewn torsos hacked, such horrendous sight
Helmets hovered like vultures over carcass
Nestled against the Earth's cavernous mound
Witnessed by the Martyred, the rascals blind
Gaped at the mottled hallowed ground

The Kris is forged indeed from Lunar Light
Stolidly indomitable to any annihilator
Innumerable blades shamelessly infringed
Vilified, impaled yet still resurrected
With a life of its own it thrives fearlessly
In the Sanctuary of Rare Intrepid Hearts
The Kris knows not Death except its Owner

Once again from the Crescent's Twilight
Amazingly
The Mythical Kris looms once more

Like the eternal sunset eager
To brace each sunrise
wistfully
Against a mirage of a tipping Solstice

Relentlessly

The song before the extro is from the Ulangig Pamukaw (Awakening Echoes) Album from composer AbduRashid "Bong" Pelaez. The song entitled "Mabutas Da Kamu" (Ultimately You'll Separate) is an allusion to the inevitable separation of the material and spiritual bodies of every human being.

Mr. Pelaez is the founding chairman of the United Tausug Artists Group in Jolo, Sulu.
